City of Addis Ababa to Collect More Revenue from Miners to Fund Environmental Programs

Authority General Manager Ato Dida Diriba said Birr 48,044,201 was generated against a planned Birr 47 million, achieving 102% of the target. He added that 20 new construction mining licenses were issued and 52 existing licenses renewed during the year.

 The Addis Ababa City Administration Environmental Protection Authority has announced that it collected more than Birr 48 million in revenue from construction mineral producers during the 2024-25 fiscal year, surpassing its annual target.

 According to Ato Dida, construction and mining activities created job opportunities for 501 young people, exceeding expectations. The sector also supplied 4.86 million cubic meters of construction minerals for city development projects, helping prevent shortages and curb price inflation. The authority also exceeded its environmental goals, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 459,000 tons, above the planned 350,000 tons.
