Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed long and cordial relations between China and Algeria. Tebboune visited Russia, a long-time partner and military provider, purportedly to campaign for its entry into BRICS. Algeria has remained officially neutral in Moscow’s war in Ukraine. In 2014, Algeria and China had become strategic partners and pledged to expand their cooperation in the economy, trade, energy, space, and health.
