Chinese president endorses Algeria’s entry into BRICS

Significantly, the meeting has taken place a month before the BRICS Summit in South Africa as China supports Algeria’s accession to the BRICS mechanism

Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed China’s relationship with Algeria in a meeting in the capital Beijing recently with his Algerian counterpart  Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Chinese President Xi Jinping hailed long and cordial relations between China and Algeria.  Tebboune visited Russia, a long-time partner and military provider, purportedly to campaign for its entry into BRICS.   Algeria has remained officially neutral in Moscow’s war in Ukraine. In 2014, Algeria and China had become strategic partners and pledged to expand their cooperation in the economy, trade, energy, space, and health.

China has recently overtaken France as the premier supplier to Algeria. Its exports to Algeria are dominated by manufactured goods like rubber-based products, such as tires, footwear, and telecommunications equipment and imports are mainly crude oil and petroleum products.
