The Chinese embassy in South Africa has donated US$ 66,396 to the South African government for undertaking relief works for those affected by the recent floods. The devastating floods have killed 443 people. The donation was part of its efforts to support South African people affected by the disaster in KwaZulu-Natpro. Properties and infrastructure were destroyed on account of the floods, which have considerably affected civic life.

China is not the first country to make a donation to South Africa in support of its flood relief effort. The opinions are divided in the country for accepting Chinese help, which according to them was a pittance. The African Union also announced a US$150,000 donation from its emergency fund. President of South Africa Cyril Ramaphosa earlier this week declared a national state of emergency after a recent cabinet meeting.
