Chinese foreign minister held talks with Kenyan President

China’s foreign minister Wang Yi, met with Kenya’s president Uhuru Kenyatta recently at the port of Mombasa.  Both leaders took stock of the multi-billion oil pipeline project being built on the coast with the Chinese assistance.

The Chinese foreign minister said that his country is committed to peace in the region and resolved that both countries would continue to have close communication and coordination at the UN Security Council and other platforms. He also said that China would play an even bigger role for peace and stability in this region.

Significantly, China announced the appointment of a special envoy to the Horn of Africa region affected by conflict between Ethiopia, Eritrea and the Tigray region.

Kenya’s president while expressing great satisfaction of the partnership between China and African region said that Kenya would work with China in realizing the development aspirations of both regions.

As Africa’s biggest trading partner,  China’s  bilateral trade with African  region reached over US$220 billion dollars in 2019. Also, China has huge investments in most of the countries in the region, which some analysts observe, is higher than the Western countries put together.
