China to support Malawi’s Agricultural sector

The Chinese government has agreed to extend f(global ties, Asia,unding to the tune of $3 million to Malawi support its agriculture sector. The support under the Technical Cooperation for Agricultural Cooperation between China and Malawi project is expected to facilitate the expansion of modern farming and agriculture technology to improve farm output.

 Malawi’s agriculture sector has been facing serious challenges due to climate change and other factors. The contribution of agriculture to the Gross Domestic Product of Malawi is projected to fall by 0.2 percentage points in 2019 from 27.3 percent. Under the new agreement, China will send experts to Malawi to conduct research, demonstration, promotion, and training on agricultural technologies used in horticulture, maize and rice production.  Under this agreement, China will share useful technologies to help Malawi reinvigorate rural areas. From 2019 to 2021, China is expected to send 500 senior agricultural experts to Africa.

China is committed to improving agricultural technologies which is one among the eight major initiatives implemented in collaboration with Africa for Industrial Promotion, Trade Facilitation, and Green Development among others.
