Private Banks in Ethiopia are adding to the skyline of Addis Ababa. Bank of Abyssinia, one of the leading private banks of Ethiopia, is constructing its headquarters on a 9,763 sq. m of land, leased from the Addis Ababa City Administration in the financial district of the city. The USD 400 million project has been awarded to China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).
The new project, the Bank’s president, Bekalu Zeleke said will be one of the tallest buildings in Ethiopia. The construction of the Project is expected to start in four months and will be completed in five years, according to Bekalu. The project is also expected to spur economic growth. Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) also had awarded the same construction company to construct its 46 storey skyscraper next to Ethiopia Hotel.
Another leading private bank, Awash Bank, is also proposing to construct a 50-story building on its 8,700sq. m of land, with an estimated cost of 12 billion birrs.
