China grants free market access to Ethiopia

The Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration of Ethiopia said that   China allowed duty-free access to 1,644 items to be exported from Ethiopia, wherein it ( Ethiopia)  is not required to fulfill any obligation in return.

This step by China follows the recent decision it has taken to grant duty-free access to Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, the Kingdom of Lesotho, Malawi, Sao Tome, and Principe, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia. Starting from 1 December, these countries have had duty-free access to the Chinese market.

In 2021, China announced that it would import goods worth US$ 3 billion from Africa in the following three years as a special gesture to the continent.  It also promised to increase the number of products that were covered by the zero-tariff policy. Bilateral trade relations between Africa and China reached US$ 236 billion in October 2022. Trade analysts feel the target set at US$3 billion import from Africa is atoll order.
