Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) has reiterated its commitment to tackling oil theft. The company has blamed International Oil Companies (IOCs), communities, among other stakeholders for oil theft hindering the industry’s growth. Chevron and another IOC were specifically mentioned in the report allegedly attributed to Kabiru Rurum, the Chairman, of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on crude oil theft.
The oil multinational described the assertion as untrue. It, however, reiterated its commitment to supporting collaborative efforts to prevent oil theft and pipeline vandalism. CNL affirmed that illegal bunkering and oil theft in the Niger Delta region has negatively impacted CNL’s operation with devastating effects on the nation’s economy and the environment.

Chevron said it has continued to monitor its areas of operation and report any suspected illegal activity and breaches to relevant government security and regulatory agencies. The CNL’s also affirmed its commitment to working with government agencies and others to prevent oil theft. It was recently commended by the Special Investigation Panel on Oil Theft/Losses in Nigeria set up by the Federal Government during its visit to CNL’s operations.
