Chad’s opposition – Transformateurs party’s – leader Dr Succès Masra, described the upcoming April 11 election as a masquerade and accused the present regime of indulging in arm twisting strategies. While addressing a press conference, the opposition leader was highly critical of the present government and asked for postponement or cancellation of the elections.
He stressed that only change the leadership could bring solutions to the problems of Chadians and said that his party would boycott the elections. He called for support of the people for preventing the elections from taking place. He also cautioned that if by any chance the present government came back into power, everyone would be taken to task.
However, the current President Deby and candidate for his own succession came out to meet the voters in the 1st district of the capital in Farcha. His supporters explained to the people since his (Deby’s) arrival, many things had improved: the light, the roads etc. He had accomplished 80% of the task and only 20% left, which they felt he would accomplish in the next years of his rule.
