Chad pleads for Africa to be allowed to join the United Nations Security Council as a permanent member to correct historical injustice meted out to the continent.
This demand was put forward by Chad’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Awatif El Tidjani Ahmed Koiboro while speaking at the UN General Assembly recently. She lamented that such a move would greatly benefit countries in the G5 Sahel.
Chad urged member states to move from rhetoric to action in order to achieve the said reform and correct the historic injustice towards the African continent. It may be noted that Nigeria has already demanded two permanent seats be allocated to the UN Security Council to Africa, as reported by www.trendsnafrica.com.
Chad’s secretary of state for foreign affairs expressed concern about the recent withdrawal of Mali from the G5 Sahel. Mali is a founding member of this organisation. She underscored the need for defeating terrorism so as to stabilise and develop the Sahel, and advocated joint fight and pooling of resources.

She hoped that Mali would reconsider the decision and rejoin the Sahel grouping. In December last year, the UN and the African Union pledged to work together with the G5 Sahel and Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to improve security and governance in the region.
