Britain Election

(3 Minutes Read)

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded defeat in the national election on July 5, saying the opposition Labour Party had won. He said he called  Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory. Sunak won his parliamentary seat in northern England.

Labor Party leader Kei Starmer is the Prime Minister-elect of Britain. Speaking after getting a historic mandate after waiting for a long 14 years for the mandate rule,  he announced the launch of a period of national renewal to take back the economy to the development path. After the expected victory of the Labour Party trouncing the Conservatives, Strammer said he would start the work of change, the mission of national renewal, and start to rebuild the country.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded defeat in the national election on July 5, saying the opposition Labour Party had won. He said he called  Sir Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory. Sunak won his parliamentary seat in northern England.

European Council President Charles Michel congratulated Keir Starmer on a “historic election victory” in Britain and said he looked forward to working with London under a Labour government.

Former U.K. Prime Minister Liz Truss, in power for 49 chaotic days in 2022, sensationally lost her seat at the British general election as the Conservatives suffered a landslide defeat. Ms. Truss – a member of parliament since 2010 who sparked financial turmoil during her short tenure as British leader – lost her Norfolk South West constituency in eastern England to Labour by 630 votes.

Labour leader Keir Starmer will become prime minister after a carefully choreographed ceremony during which King Charles III will formally ask him to form a new government.

Starmer, who became an MP in 2015, ran for the leadership of Labour in 2020 after Mr. Corbyn, a leftist, resigned following the party’s defeat in the 2019 election. Mr. Starmer stood for the leadership race with an agenda of 10 key pledges, which he stated was ‘based on the moral case for socialism’. Some of the key pledges include an increase of income tax for 5% of top earners, restricting the U.K.’s arms sales, nationalizing the rail, mail, energy, and water sectors, a new Green Deal, strengthening workers’ rights, etc. The moot point is whether he would be able to walk the talk in  fulfilling the agenda set.
