The just concluded general elections in the Central African Republic (CAR) according to a government spokesperson were free and fair, while the citizens are waiting for the results.  However, the armed group disputed the first round of elections. They are occupying two-thirds of a territory hampered by civil war.

Barring some isolated incidents of violence, the observer missions also agree that the elections were free of violence. The election was held in the 16 prefectures of the CAR. Of the 5408 polling stations, 800 polling stations were not opened. That would work out to 85% of the polling stations.

The results would be trickling from January 4 onwards and the final results are expected to be announced by January 19. If no candidate or party gets majority, there will be a possible second round of election on February 14, 2021.If no candidate gets more than 50% of the vote share, there will be a second round, wherein, the candidate, which has got the maximum number of votes will be pitted against the entire opposition.
