The Government of Cape Verde has officially inaugurated Tech Park Cape Verde (TechPark CV), a state-of-the-art hub for technology and innovation, marking a major milestone in the nation’s digital transformation agenda.

Backed by a €45.59 million investment from the African Development Bank (AfDB)—equivalent to nearly 2% of Cape Verde’s GDP—TechPark CV is a cornerstone of the country’s economic diversification strategy. It underscores Cape Verde’s vision to become the “Tech Islands of West Africa,” a vital digital gateway connecting West Africa, Europe, and the Americas.

TechPark CV aims to drive technological advancement within Cape Verde and across the wider region. The park currently hosts 23 companies and can accommodate up to 1,500 professionals. With modern facilities and high-speed connectivity, it is designed to support startups and established tech firms alike, foster collaboration with academic institutions, and generate new job opportunities, contributing to workforce development and economic resilience.

The project spans two campuses: one in Praia on Santiago Island and another in Mindelo on São Vicente Island. Inauguration ceremonies on both islands this week are attracting broad attention. Today’s event in Praia brought together over 300 companies—including more than 100 international firms—and major global players like Intel, Microsoft, and Smart Africa, highlighting growing international interest in Cape Verde’s tech ecosystem.

Government officials, business leaders, and technology experts are convening to discuss Africa’s digital future. Cape Verdean Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva and African Development Bank President Dr. Akinwumi A. Adesina are among the key speakers, emphasizing the strategic importance of the initiative.

A highlight of the event is a panel discussion featuring senior representatives from Intel, Microsoft, Smart Africa, and former French Minister Elisabeth Moreno. Together, they are exploring the intersection of technology, innovation, and Africa’s digital evolution.

TechPark CV offers cutting-edge, sustainable infrastructure including coworking spaces, data centers, training and business facilities, and a conference center—enhanced by international-grade digital services. Its central Atlantic location provides a unique platform for global collaboration and investment in African startups.

The park is also a catalyst for emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), blockchain, fintech, big data, and the Internet of Things (IoT). As a Special Economic Zone for Technologies (ZEET), it offers a suite of business incentives, including VAT and import tax exemptions and a reduced corporate tax rate of 2.5% for eligible companies.

In partnership with ECOWAS, TechPark CV will extend its reach throughout West Africa, promoting digital innovation and sustainable growth. At the heart of this initiative is the Cape Verdean spirit of morabeza—a culture of hospitality and openness that welcomes innovation and collaboration from around the world.

“TechPark CV is the realisation of our ambition to transform Cape Verde into a technology hub for West Africa. Our unique mid-Atlantic location creates a gateway for investment and partnerships linking Africa, Europe, and the Americas. At its core, this project is about building a community where innovation, collaboration, and the spirit of morabeza drive shared prosperity,” said Carlos Monteiro, President of TechPark CV.
