- Cape Verde is set to receive investments from the former colonizer Portugal, which will be channelized mainly for education purposes
Cape Verde and Portugal have signed a strategic cooperation program that provides investments of 95 million Euros. This agreement was crystalized at the conclusion of the VI Cape Verde Portugal summit held recently. Both countries’ leaders praised the new strategic cooperation program, which they termed as an important turning point in the bilateral relations. According to the deal, the full investments will fructify by 2026.
The deal was signed between Cape Verdean prime minister Ulisses Correia e Silva and Portuguese counterpart António Costa. The summit was held at Praia. Education and health were two of the six areas of the new partnership program between the two countries. The two leaders visited the Portuguese School of Cabo Verde as a symbolic gesture to underline the key role education should play in development.
Yet another plank of the new agreement is the agreement to upgrade their technical-police and civil protection cooperation. The Portuguese PM’s three-day visit to Africa which also took him to Guinea-Bissau.
