Cameroon: Camwater to Launch Bottled Water as Complementary Product to Boost Access and Sustainability

(3 Minutes Read)

Camwater has announced the launch of a new bottled water product—not as a replacement, but as a complementary addition to its core tap water service. This initiative is aimed at expanding access to safe drinking water and enhancing the company’s financial sustainability.

To bring this life-saving project to life, Camwater plans to establish ultrafiltration, mineralisation, and bottling facilities across all 10 regions of Cameroon. A pilot phase will first be rolled out in key urban centers, including Yaoundé, Douala, Bafoussam, Limbe, and Maroua, following the selection of qualified service providers.

Amid a rapidly growing population, Camwater reaffirms its commitment to its public service mandate. In line with Decree No. 2018/144 of February 20, 2018, and decisions of its Board of Directors, the state-owned water utility is empowered to undertake both core and complementary activities. These include creating socially-driven subsidiaries and executing complex projects through alternative financing such as public-private partnerships and buyer credit mechanisms.

While piped water remains its primary offering, the new bottled water line brings multiple benefits. It expands consumer options, increases access to clean water, and opens up new revenue streams to support Camwater’s financial health. In a competitive market already populated by established brands, the company aims to offer superior value by ensuring high quality at an affordable price.

This bottled water initiative is both a strategic and socially driven move to reinforce the company’s visibility, resilience, and public impact.
