Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi said that his country has spent LE 280 billion during the past six years to improve the living conditions in Cairo Governorate only. The president was  dedicating to the nation a number of national projects.

President said that from now onwards building licenses will not be issued for some places in Cairo again, to improve living conditions and to decongest the city. He said that this step should have been taken some 20 years ago, before the situation had come to this pass.

President Abdel Fatah El-Sisi inaugurated a number of national megaprojects, including the Al-Asmarat 3 housing project in Cairo’s Mokattam district, which was established to house residents of slums recently. The inauguration ceremonies were attended by Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, Parliament Speaker Ali Abdel Aal and a number of ministers.

In the case of issuing new licenses in Cairo, the president said new conditions would apply. If the licenses are for 7 floors, only two floors will be allowed, adding that the new licenses would be a contract between the state and the owner of the land. The rules are put in place to reduce the density of population in Cairo and to maintain healthcare standards of its citizens. The garages under the buildings also will be closed to decongest the city since such outfits create traffic jams.
