Burkina Faso’s transitional assembly assumed office recently (Last Tuesday).  The 71-member assembly will be responsible for conducting voting on  reforms planned during the transition. The new assembly took office two months after a military take—over, which  led to the ouster of former president Kabore. The assembly was ready for the talks with stakeholders to free the country from the grip of terrorists.  The impoverished economy has been suffering due to sporadic attack of militants. The military take over of the regime was due to the mis management and incapability of the civilian government to suppress the bloody jihadists aggressions.

Aboubacar Toguyeni, was elected to head the transitional legislative assembly at a recently held ceremony. The assembly consists of 71 deputies. 21 appointed by the president and the remainder chosen by the security forces, civil groups, political parties and the country’s 13 regions. The assembly will work towards return of peace into the West African country, which has been facing harrowing experiences  for quite some time.

The legislative body has adopted a Transition Charter in early March for  consultations between the ruling junta, political parties, unions and civil society organisations.
