Cameroon and Chad Republic are going to be connected soon through a
bridge over the Logone River, which separates both the countries. The
funds for the bridge will come from African Development Bank Group.
It has already approved the grants worth about US$43.46 million for
the construction of a bridge.
The grants, comprising US$22.586 million tranche for Cameroon and
US$20.880 million for Chad, were approved and are routed through the
Investment Facility for Africa. A framework agreement between the Bank
Group and the European Commission has already been entered into for
this purpose.
The funds will be used for construction of the bridge between Yagoua
in Cameroon and Bongor in Chad. In addition to this, there is the
cost towards building access roads and undertaking feasibility
studies. The connectivity will promote interstate trade, particularly
between Cameroon and Chad, reduce travel time and transportation
costs, and improve accessibility o to basic services by nearby
communities of a section of African countries including Mali, Côte
d’Ivoir, Burkina Faso and Niger.
