Botswana’s gambling industry is on track to exceed P450 million in annual Gross Gambling Revenue (GGR), according to Gambling Authority CEO Emolemo Peter Kesitilwe. Speaking at the launch of Bet267 in Mogoditshane, Kesitilwe revealed that March 2025 alone saw bets totalling P150 million, with P135 million paid out in winnings, generating P15 million in GGR.
Despite this strong performance, these figures represent only 40% of the nation’s estimated 550,000 gamblers, with the remaining 60% participating through unregulated platforms. Kesitilwe emphasised that converting these players to licensed operators could significantly increase revenue, create jobs, and support economic growth.
Licensed betting firms like Bet267 are already contributing by planning to employ over 100 people across Botswana. To further drive industry development, the Gambling Authority is updating the Gambling Act of 2012, proposing key changes like lowering the legal gambling age from 21 to 18 and enhancing anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism compliance.

Kesitilwe urged operators to adopt stricter AML controls amid rising digital and cross-border gambling activity. He also highlighted the contrast with South Africa’s mature market, which generates over P30 billion annually, noting Botswana’s high per capita betting rate and growth potential with the right policies.
Bet267 was commended for job creation efforts, currently employing eight licensed staff and planning expansions in Letlhakane, Palapye, and Gaborone.
