Botswana has retraced its recent policy of denying entry to partially vaccinated or unvaccinated travellers into the country. The country has dropped the vaccine mandate and has decided to allow unvaccinated travellers into the country, if they possess a negative COVID-19 test result.
A statement by Botswana Ministry of Health disclosed that the move will ensure smooth entry for international travellers. Travellers who do not comply with the rules or not willing to undergo COVID-19 testing at the port of entry, will be penalised. However, there are some variations in the validity period of vaccination in Botswana. In Botswana, the vaccine validity period is 180 days, while Europe has a 270-day validity period. The Health Ministry has also informed that in order to remove the hassles in international travel, the definition of being fully vaccinated in Botswana will no longer include a booster shot and will include only completion of the primary vaccine series to be allowed entry, without the need to present a negative PCR test result. The revision of the travel rule was welcomed by many.
