Boeing has reached settlement on compensation to Indonesian crash victims

· A court filing of Boeing Co revealed that it has reached settlement agreements in more than 90% of the wrongful death claims filed in federal court after the 2018 crash of a Lion Air 737 MAX in Indonesia

· Experts are of the opinion that Boeing is still not out of the woods since it has to settle the case of relatives of the deceased in the Ethiopian air crash. Several lawsuits are filed against the company in this regard

· Some of them suggest that the accident had taken place due the mechanical fault of the aircraft and not due to negligence of the pilot.

A court filing of Boeing Co revealed that it has reached settlement agreements in more than 90% of the wrongful death claims filed in federal court after the 2018 crash of a Lion Air 737 MAX in Indonesia. The crash killed all 189 people on board.

Significantly, the fatal crash, followed within five months by another 737 MAX jetliner in Ethiopia. This has led to the worldwide grounding of the best-selling model. The back to back crashes led to a corporate crisis. The share prices of once most privileged corporations had nosedived. Hundreds of lawsuits alleging the jet was unsafe were
filed. Separate probes by the Justice Department and U.S. lawmakers followed. .

Boeing has applied to the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration for approval to fly the MAX again later this year. It is to be seen how this development would help the corporation to resume the grounded aircrafts.

Boeing said claims of 171 of the 189 passengers on board of the ill-fated aircraft have been fully or partially settled. That includes 140 of the 150 claims filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. However, the company did not reveal the claim amount. The company sources said that Boeing remained committed to resolving the remaining cases.

Experts are of the opinion that Boeing is still not out of the woods since it has to settle the case of relatives of the deceased in the Ethiopian air crash.
