President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) Felix Tshisekedi has reported having raised his country’s tensions with Rwanda during his meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Kinshasa accuses neighbouring Rwanda of supporting the rebels of the March 23 Movement” (M23). Rwanda has always been in a denial mode of these aggressions.  Blinken has visited both DRC and Rwanda, during his multi-nation visits, which started off with South Africa. South Africa also had taken a neutral stand on the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

As reported by www.trendsnafrica.com, the latest UN report has pointed out the involvement of Rwanda in supporting the militant group called M3. Known as “The March 23”, it is a former Tutsi-dominated rebellion that was defeated in 2013 and took up arms again late last year, blaming Kinshasa for failing to respect agreements on the demobilization and reintegration of its fighters. The report mandated by the Security Council details Rwanda’s direct involvement, unilaterally or jointly, with M23 fighters in eastern Congo.

DRC wants Blinken “articulate the inconvenient truths”, “publicly and condemn the M23 attacks in the strongest terms, as M23 has been committing war crimes against civilians. There is no authentic report about the closed-door meetings of Blinken with the respective head of states of DRC and Rwanda, but diplomatic analysts opine that Washington would be careful and circumspect in its interference since it wants both countries on their side because of the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia. A good number of countries in the region had either voted against or abstained from voting on the UN resolution against the Russian interference in Ukraine, creating embarrassments to the Western forces.
