The North African country exported 53,000 tonnes of blueberries in 2022. Peru topped the list of global exporters of fresh blueberries last year, with 277,000 tonnes of exports, followed by Chile with 105,000 tonnes and Spain with 87,000 tonnes of exports. The Netherlands also emerged as a major exporter but was driven by re-exports. in 11 months of last year, the data said.

Experts view this as a considerable achievement for Morocco rising from seventh place in 2017. Berry production has become a major player in Morocco’s agricultural sector over the years. The country’s strawberry exports to the global market is estimated to be around $40 and $70 million annually becoming one of the top ten export products from Morocco. In 2022, strawberry exports from Morocco recorded a 17% increase compared to the previous year. UAE, Qatar, the US, etc are major buyers of Moroccan strawberries. In 2022, the US accounted for almost half of Morocco’s strawberry exports.
