Delegates from across Africa gathered in Addis Ababa to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the African Union (AU). Moussa Faki Mahamat, former Chadian Prime Minister and Chairperson of the African Union Commission welcomed the delegates. The meeting has kicked off at Addis Ababa, the Ethiopian capital.
Delegates representing the member states are expected to review their success, challenges, milestones, and way forward in all areas and issues they have tackled since last year. In his opening remarks, the chairman said that Africa must not become a geostrategic battleground.
Several African leaders, such as Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed shared their thoughts on the ongoing issues the continent is facing. Amongst them included poor leadership, corruption, poverty, war, and grim external influences.
