In Lunda Sul, Angola’s mining province, big investments are taking place in diamond mining. A new development hub is coming up there in the city of Saurimo. Important to note is the stress being given to green mining to comply with the carbon footprint norms. It will bring together in one place, all the actors working in the diamond industry, both public and private sectors to stimulate growth and realise the sector’s full potential.
Diamond polishing factories, offices, and a specialist training center are being set up as part of the project. at the heart of this project. The country was known for exporting rough diamonds. With the new hub, stress will be given to value addition. Diamond polishing is the first stage of value addition. The Southern African country has set a goal of creating value addition to the extent of 20% before the diamonds are exported. Later, value addition would go up creating more jobs and revenue for the domestic economy.

The hub will have special facilities to impart skill sets to cope with the downstream and upstream processes of diamond mining. The hub will conduct 11 courses all linked to mining, having full-time students and laboratories to support the courses and facilities.
