The Angolan National Assembly received 220 deputies elected on August 24

The Angolan National Assembly received 220 deputies elected on August 24. As reported by www.trendsnafrica.com earlier, President João Lourenço’s MPLA was re-elected and has the absolute majority, with 124 seats, while the largest opposition party, UNITA, elected 90 representatives. The remaining seats were split between three parties.

UNITA’s leader Adalberto Costa Júnio has contested the election results on technical grounds. Despite that, he made it clear that the country should carry out reforms, needed to revise the constitution, and should switch over to direct election of the president of the republic.

Adalberto Costa Júnior emphasized that he never spoke of fraud, but of deviation from the laws, and accused the courts of evading justice.
