The Angolan government officially opened a new fertilizer production facility, named Olombi, in Sacomar, Namibe province. According to the Namibe provincial government, the Olombi factory is expected to produce over 100,000 tons of fertilizers and agricultural compounds annually. The facility, funded by China Agronegócios, Lda. and Chinahyway with an investment of approximately USD 19 million, includes dedicated zones for production, maintenance, storage, and packaging.
Minister Lima Massano hailed the factory as a “strategic investment” for Angola’s food security and economic diversification, reducing reliance on imported fertilizers and strengthening local agricultural output. The chairman of Olombi Agronegócios, Zhao Xiadon, indicated that production could eventually reach 300,000 tons per year.
In addition to the fertilizer plant, Namibe will soon host a tomato processing factory, also located in Sacomar, which is expected to be operational within six months. The plant, acquired from the state in 2022 by the SANEP Group under the privatization program (Propriv), is now partnered with Noble GROUP, aiming to add value to local tomato production and create new jobs.
During his three-day visit to Namibe, Minister Massano also toured the Kandiry poultry farm, which produces over 21,000 eggs daily with support from the PRODESI program. He further reviewed local pig farming initiatives, the Bero Wine factory (producing 1,000+ bottles annually), and fish production facilities exporting to the US, Europe, and Asia.
