Angola Awards Long-Term Management of New International Airport to CAAP-Led Consortium

The Angolan Government has announced that a consortium led by Corporación América Airports (CAAP), in partnership with Mota-Engil Engenharia e Construção África S.A., has been selected to operate, manage, and maintain the new António Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN). The concession grants the consortium management rights for an initial period of 25 years, with the possibility of a 15-year extension.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Transport, the concession was awarded following a competitive process overseen by the relevant supervisory authority and carried out in full compliance with Angola’s legal and technical regulatory framework. The Ministry emphasized that the CAAP-led consortium achieved the highest overall evaluation, scoring 93.25 out of 100 points. This result reflects the consortium’s strong technical expertise, financial robustness, and extensive experience in the integrated management of airport infrastructure.

Headquartered in Luxembourg, Corporación América Airports is internationally recognized for its economic stability and adherence to rigorous regulatory standards. The company is regarded as a global leader in private airport management, with a proven track record in the modernization, expansion, and efficient operation of airport facilities. Its technical know-how and operational capacity were key factors in securing the concession.

Minister of Transport Ricardo de Abreu described the awarding of the concession as a “unique and historic” milestone for Angola, particularly for the country’s civil aviation sector. He highlighted the strategic importance of AIAAN, describing it as a critical infrastructure that will help transform Angola into a major continental air hub. The airport is expected to significantly enhance passenger and cargo traffic within Africa and between Africa and the rest of the world.

 The Minister further noted that the project will have a substantial impact on national economic growth by stimulating key sectors such as trade, services, and tourism, while also strengthening the international visibility of the “Visit Angola” brand. He added that the successful conclusion of the concession process underscores the Ministry of Transport’s commitment to modernizing and improving the competitiveness of the aviation sector.
