Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the Algerian president, started a two-day state visit to Portugal, where he would meet the Algerian residents, participate in a business forum and hold discussions with the Portuguese head of state.  The president is accompanied by the Algerian ministers of Industry, Commerce, and Startups as well as SMEs.

Portugal is now focusing on Algeria more than ever before. Recently, Portugal’s Finance minister said his country would invest heavily in Algeria and was drawing up plans for that.  The visiting president Tebboune and his counterpart President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa will discuss bilateral issues as well as regional and international developments.

As reported by www.trendsnafrica.com, recently a high-level Portuguese-Moroccan ministerial summit was held. Both Portugal and Spain shifted their historic positions to back Rabbat’s plan for the status of the Western Sahara. This is against the stand of Algeria, which is a strong supporter of an alternative solution presented by the Polisario Front.
