Algeria to strengthen bilateral ties with Ethiopia

 In a discussion held between Deputy prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Demeke Mekonnen, Algerian Foreign Minister, RamtaneLamamra has evinced keen interest to strengthen bilateral relations with Ethiopia. The Ministers appreciated the successful completion of elections in each other’s country and also reviewed the sectors for collaboration.

The Algerian Foreign Minister advised the Ethiopian airlines to continue their flight to Algiers. The two countries also discussed ways and means to strengthen their respective roles in African Union (AU). The two countries have been working closely regarding regional and international agendas and shared a common interest and a common position in the fight against terrorism. They both hold the widely shared view that international terrorism is one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.

Algeria is viewed as one of the key strategic partners of Ethiopia. The two countries have already signed more than 20 cooperation agreements in various sectors such as Trade, Investment Protection and Promotion, Avoidance of Double Taxation. Additionally, they have also agreed to cooperate in the areas of Science, Culture, and Technical fields.
