Algeria’s Ministry of Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with Russia’s state nuclear corporation, Rosatom. According to the official communiqué, the document includes a roadmap of joint activities for 2024 and 2025. The latter may concern nuclear technologies in medicine, the use of research reactors, or the production of medicines.
The memorandum was signed at the Atomexpo -2024 Forum in Sirius, on the Black Sea coast of Russia. Another country with which Rosatom inked a roadmap for cooperation in nuclear energy is Burkina Faso. According to the document signed on Tuesday, the possibility of the construction of a nuclear power plant in Burkina Faso will be studied. Another cooperation roadmap was signed between Rosatom and Mali.
The memorandum includes a roadmap for cooperation activities between the two parties for the years 2024 and 2025. These activities encompass the use of nuclear applications in the healthcare sector, radiotherapy, research reactors, nuclear pharmaceutical preparations, and the training of scientific and technical personnel. Additionally, it involves the development of nuclear technologies and applications for peaceful purposes.
The Ministry specifies in its statement that this forum, held under the theme “Clean Energy: Creating the Future Together,” was opened by Alexei Likhachev, Director General of Rosatom, Rafael Moreno Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, and Sama Bilbao y León, Director General of the World Nuclear Association.

On Tuesday (26 March), a roadmap for developing a partnership on nuclear energy was signed by Russia’s state nuclear corporation, Rosatom, and Burkina Faso. The roadmap includes studying the possibility of the construction of a nuclear power plant in the West African country. A similar document was signed with Mali.
