A Press release by the Foreign Ministry of Dhaka, Bangladesh has reported that Algeria has expressed its keen interest to enhance its bilateral ties with Bangladesh. The intent was expressed by the new Algerian ambassador Rabah Larbi in separate meetings with foreign minister AK Abdul Momen and state minister for foreign affairs M Shahriar Alam at the foreign ministry in Dhaka. The Press Release further states that Algeria is keen to expand its imports, including pharmaceuticals, jute and jute products and readymade garments, from Bangladesh. The Algerian ambassador also conveyed that his country would like to consolidate bilateral relations especially through holding political consultations to boost economic and trade linkages.
Both the ministers also expressed the view that Bangladesh was also keen to strengthen bilateral ties encompassing trade and commerce, socio-economic development and people-to-people contacts to mutual benefits. It was also observed that the two sides should explore opportunities for cooperation in energy, air connectivity, and skilled manpower, among other potential sector. The discussions also highlighted the significance of exchange of visits both at public and private sector levels to intensify people-to-people contacts
