During his address at the international trade exhibition “Batimatec 2025”, Minister Mohamed Tarek Belaribi emphasised the significant strides made by Algeria’s ceramics industry, particularly in the realm of construction materials exports.

Historically, the export market in this domain has been heavily dominated by cement and iron, but recent developments signal a shift, with ceramics emerging as a strong contender. In light of this progress, the Minister announced that a dedicated meeting with ceramics manufacturers will soon be convened. The objective of this meeting is to develop a comprehensive strategic roadmap aimed at positioning ceramics as a leading export sector by the end of 2025.

Belaribi also took the opportunity to highlight Algeria’s achievement in residential construction. Between 2020 and 2024, the country successfully built approximately 1.7 million housing units, utilizing locally sourced building materials. This approach aligns with the Presidential mandate to reduce dependence on imported construction products by promoting domestic production and self-sufficiency.

Looking ahead, the 2025 housing programme includes plans for the construction of an additional 250,000 homes, which forms part of the government’s broader goal to deliver two million housing units by 2029. This ambitious plan is being carried out with the involvement of more than 18,410 Algerian companies, reflecting a strong national commitment to infrastructure development. Furthermore, the Minister commended the positive evolution of the construction sector, noting especially the increased participation of young entrepreneurs and investors. Their active engagement in both investment and project execution is seen as a vital driver of innovation and growth in the sector.
