Algeria’s Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, held a strategic meeting with the Indian Ambassador to Algeria to advance cooperation between the two nations, particularly in the vital hydrocarbon and mining industries. The discussion forms part of a broader effort by both countries to reinforce long standing diplomatic ties with stronger economic and industrial collaboration.
During the meeting, the two officials reviewed a wide array of potential investment avenues in Algeria’s energy landscape. This included opportunities in upstream activities such as oil and gas exploration and production, as well as downstream fields like petrochemical development. They also addressed prospects related to energy infrastructure projects, industrial engineering, and the manufacturing of equipment for the oil and gas sector—areas where India has growing technological expertise and expanding corporate capabilities.
A significant portion of the conversation was dedicated to the mining sector, with a particular focus on the development and transformation of phosphates. Both sides expressed interest in collaborating on phosphate processing initiatives and boosting the production of phosphate-based and nitrogen-based fertilisers, sectors crucial for Algeria’s industrial diversification and India’s agricultural needs.
