Airtel Uganda has made a significant stride in expanding its nationwide network infrastructure, particularly benefiting regions that have historically faced connectivity challenges. This development comes as part of the company’s broader mission to deliver inclusive and affordable digital services across Uganda.
In Northern Uganda, the Lira District has seen a notable enhancement in mobile network coverage, with the establishment of 15 new communication sites. These installations span critical localities, including Puranga, Aromo, Opwakere, ATC_Awiodyek, Lango College, and Okec Oyere. The rollout of these sites is poised to significantly improve connectivity for both urban centers and outlying communities, facilitating easier access to communication, digital services, and economic opportunities.
Eastern Uganda is also witnessing strategic advancements in network coverage. New sites have been launched in:
- Soroti District: covering Kapujar, Agonga, and Ocokican,
- Pallisa District: with the launch of a site at ATC_Oludat, and
- Mbale District: where connectivity has been boosted in Wanale.
These enhancements aim to support local infrastructure, enabling smoother access to essential digital services in education, agriculture, health care, and commerce.
The western region of Uganda has seen substantial improvements with the deployment of multiple new sites:
- Fort Portal: Three new sites in Kijura, Sebitoli, and Mugura;
- Kyenjojo District: New sites established in Katooke and Kihoni;
- Kasese District: Benefiting from installations in Kyanjuki and Mabuku;
- Hoima District: Witnessing expansion in Katashia, Hoima Town, and Nyarugabu.
These developments are expected to boost local economies and provide more reliable connectivity for households and businesses.
The deployment of these new sites reflects the company’s deep commitment to serving communities based on their evolving needs. The local economies in these areas are expanding, and the company is responding to customer feedback by ensuring that our services not only meet but exceed expectations. Airtel Uganda invests ahead of the curve. These new sites are about more than just improved coverage—they are about connecting communities, expanding access to essential services, and stimulating economic development in areas that were previously underserved.
The newly launched sites are anticipated to benefit thousands of residents, enhancing access to critical sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, and trade. These efforts form part of a broader national initiative to bridge the digital divide and ensure widespread access to high-speed mobile internet.
This rollout is further bolstered by Airtel Uganda’s recent UGX 37.9 billion contribution to the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC), aimed at extending digital infrastructure to even the most remote areas of the country. This funding aligns with Uganda’s Vision 2040 and supports the national objective of building a knowledge-based economy. Each new site represents progress toward closing the digital gap and offering every Ugandan the chance to imagine and benefit from the vast opportunities that come with dependable connectivity.”
