Airtel Money Mastercard virtual payment solution launched in Zambia

       Airtel Africa’s strategic partnership with Mastercard is designed to offer the 100 million Airtel Africa mobile phone users across 14 African countries access to Mastercard’s global network.

  • As part of this strategy, Airtel Money has launched the Airtel Money Mastercard virtual payment solution in Zambia.
  •  Apart from catering to the growing demand for digital payments, this will offer all Airtel Money customers in the country, even without a bank account, to make global e-commerce payments safely and securely.

 Airtel Africa’s strategic partnership with Mastercard is designed to offer the 100 million Airtel Africa mobile phone users across 14 African countries access to Mastercard’s global network. As part of this strategy, Airtel Money has launched the Airtel Money Mastercard virtual payment solution in Zambia. Apart from catering to the growing demand for digital payments, this will offer all Airtel Money customers in the country, even without a bank account, to make global e-commerce payments safely and securely.The virtual payment solution is linked to Airtel Money wallets and can facilitate payments for  services to online merchants that accept Mastercard such as Netflix, Uber, Amazon, Google, Aliexpress and Alibaba. The company assures that the financial data of customers will be kept secure and private.

Commenting on the launch, Airtel Money Director in Zambia, James Chona remarked that  Airtel has been constantly endeavoring to add value and create an enhanced customer experience for its customers.

The partnership with Airtel Money customers is vital in advancing Mastercard’s worldwide commitment to financial inclusion and bringing a total of 1 billion people, 50 million micro and small businesses, and 25 million women entrepreneurs into the digital economy by 2025. Ngozi Megwa, Senior Vice President for Digital Partnerships, Mastercard Middle East and Africa, said that the company’s digital partnerships strategy remains focused on enabling the digital transformation of its partners. The digital transformation of its partners like Airtel will connect over 3.5 million Airtel Zambia consumers, as reported in June 2021, to the global digital economy.
