In a bid to raise cash and part of a strategy of selling some assets, Airtel Africa Plc is seeking to sell a minority stake in its mobile financial services platform Airtel Money. The company that has a presence in 14 African countries such as Kenya, Uganda and Nigeria said in a statement that they are actively pursuing the sale of the remaining owned tower sites that sit across several of their operating countries. The group is also in discussions with various potential investors seeking possible minority investments into Airtel Money. Airtel Money’s revenues in the 14 African markets were reported at $291 million (Sh32 billion) in the nine months ended December with a customer base of 21.5 million, recording a 29 percent growth over the previous period. Airtel Money customers accounted for 18 percent of  total customers, an increase of 2.5 percentage points, the multinational said.

The increase in transaction values, growth in merchant payments, cash out, person-to-person transfer, and recharge of mobile services through Airtel Money contributed to the growth in Mobile money average revenue per user.
