Airtel Africa gets status of super- agent

·        The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has granted Airtel Mobile Commerce Nigeria Ltd., a subsidiary of Airtel Africa, approval to operate as a super-agent

·        Services  such as cash deposits, payments and remittances, issuing debit and prepaid cards, electronic wallet and other financial services will be provided by Airtel under the super-agent license

·         The final approval of the super-agent license was subject to the group satisfying certain standard conditions

 

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has granted Airtel Mobile Commerce Nigeria Ltd., a subsidiary of Airtel Africa, approval to operate as a super-agent.  This  has been posted on the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) Ltd.

 

The super-agent license is distinct from the Payment Service Bank (PSB) license.  The company received approval in principle on November 4. The PSB license was required for Airtel to be able to provide financial services in Nigeria.

 

Services such as cash deposits, payments and remittances, issuing debit and prepaid cards, electronic wallet and other financial services will be provided by Airtel under the super-agent license.  The final approval of the super-agent license was subject to the group satisfying certain standard conditions.
