Ethiopia’s Oromia Industrial Parks Development Corporation will be constructing an agro-industrial park on 250 hectares of land at a cost of 7.8 billion birr. To be built in the town of Nekemte, the contractors of the project is Walabu Construction Share Company.
The agreement for the construction of the park was signed by Sisay Gemechu, Head of Oromia Industrial Parks Development Corporation Bureau, and Dereje Ermias, Head of Walabu Construction Share Company. The project will be completed in three years and the Ethiopian government would underwrite the entire cost of the project.
The project will create employment for over 3,000 people immediately. When it becomes functional, the project will employ over 50,000 people directly or indirectly. The park will create direct market linkages between the industries and farmers. The park also will create opportunities for inviting foreign investments in the agro processing sector of the country. It will help in processing a number of products including coffee, tea, oilseeds and grains, fruits and vegetables, food grains, meat, and poultry products and eggs, honey, and dairy products.
