Internal auditors across Africa have been encouraged to adopt Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies to advance the profession on the continent. This call was made during the opening of the 11th African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (AFIIA) Conference held on May 26 in Kigali.
AFIIA Chairperson Ruth Doreen Mutebe underscored AI’s growing relevance in internal auditing, noting that while adoption rates differ across countries, the profession is taking a deliberate, strategic approach to integrate AI into its practices.
Jean Sauveur Mizerere, Systems Audit Manager at the Bank of Kigali, shared how the bank is already leveraging AI for data analysis and report writing through a well-defined roadmap. Similarly, Rwanda’s National Cyber Security Authority CEO, David Kanamugire, emphasised that AI is no longer optional, calling on professionals to adapt quickly and collaboratively.
