Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate urged US President Joe Biden to help those most affected by the ravages of global warming. Joe Biden will arrive today (11 November) in Egypt to participate in the UN climate talks.
Nakate is a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations’ children’s fund (UNICEF). In her emotional appeal, she urged President Biden to listen to climate science and those on the frontlines of the crisis, while reiterating her demand for phasing out fossil fuels and accelerated funding to help vulnerable countries cope with accelerating climate impacts.
The United States should be a climate leader in the fight for climate justice, she urged in one of her interviews with a media house. The 25-year-old climate activist is participating at the COP27 climate conference in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh and is the founder of the Rise Up Climate Movement in her native Uganda.

Nakate urged Biden to summon the “political will” to support communities most affected by the snowballing impacts caused by a warming world. It is not known whether she would get an opportunity to meet Biden, who would be at the summit for a brief time. Nakate has recently visited communities affected by the devastating drought in the Horn of Africa, where millions are on the brink of starvation, including children.
