The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention urged that it needs  a continental capacity  to produce covid-19 vaccines as it targets to vaccinate  its 1.3 billion people. The body said that five African nations appear to have the capacity to produce vaccines, such as South Africa, Senegal, Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt.

Africa needs regular, additional vaccination for boosting the immunity.  That underscores the need for a continental policy and building capacities, said Dr. John Nkengasong, Director of African Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Earlier also, he urged the African Union and outside partners to create a roadmap  for boosting African capacity to produce vaccines.

In the meantime, it is reported that at least 22 of Africa’s 54 countries have received Covid-19 vaccines through the COVAX program. The target set is to vaccinate at least 60% of its people. Many countries have got the supplies from the UN through the WHO to vaccinate the citizens, which is grossly adequate going by the number of people to be vaccinated.
