Africa and India relations are enduring: Gen (Rtd) Dr C G D N Chiwenga, Vice President, Republic of Zimbabwe

·         Gen (Rtd) Dr C G D N Chiwenga, Vice President, Republic of Zimbabwe, noted that the relations between India and Africa are not ephemeral but historical and solid. Finding innovative ways to strengthen our relations,

·         The Duty Free Tariff Preference (DFTP) that India extends to African LDCs has been a key driver of growth for trade between the regions. He suggested that the scope of the preference could be extended to more African countries, which would benefit India too, especially in light of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement
(AfCFTA).

Delivering the keynote address  at the valedictory session of the 15th CII – EXIM Bank Digital Conclave on India Africa Project Partnership was held on 24 September 2020, Gen (Rtd) Dr C G D N Chiwenga, Vice President, Republic of Zimbabwe, noted that the relations between India and Africa are not ephemeral but historical and solid. Finding innovative ways to strengthen our relations, especially in times of COVID is important, and the digital conclave, he added, was a testament to that. It is important to encourage the private sector to invest more, with greater facilitation from governments, especially in areas where India – Africa trade has not reached its full potential, like agriculture, energy, and healthcare.

Others who spoke at the meeting included Mr Alem Tsehaye Woldemariam, Dean of African Diplomatic Corp & Ambassador of the State of Eritrea to India,  Dr Anup Wadhawan, Commerce Secretary, Government of India and   Mr Rahul Chhabra, Secretary (ER), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India.
