AfDB chief stresses need for pushing agriculture in Africa

One of the highlights of the meeting was President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina’s clarion call for mass food production for export to eliminate hunger and poverty among the population. Not only should Africa produce food but also process and package them to enhance the availability and quality of foodstuff. The continent also should strive for exporting food to other countries to earn precious foreign exchange.

 The African Development Bank (AfDB) Group’s five- day of annual meetings concluded in Accra, Ghana recently. One of the highlights of the meeting was President Dr. Akinwumi Adesina’s clarion call for mass food production for export to eliminate hunger and poverty among the population. Not only should Africa produce food but also process and package them to enhance the availability and quality of foodstuff. The continent also should strive for exporting food to other countries to earn precious foreign exchange, he exhorted.

The AfDB president laid importance on security and the African-centric organizations should work towards ensuring security, investment, growth, and development to all countries for the planned development of the continent.

This year’s meetings took place when the continent was recovering from the socio-economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic. Africa was grappling with a number of challenges and collective efforts were needed to find lasting solutions to such vexatious issues, Adesina said, adding that his organization was committed to playing a pivotal role in achieving that goal.
