AfCFTA-anchored Pharmaceutical Initiative held a virtual induction meeting for the six recently appointed National Pharmaceutical Consultants from 6 of the 10 pilot countries. The countries were Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles and Sudan. The induction course was spread over five days and the appointees were given a thorough orientation spread over a 5-day period. This would equip them to handle the challenges involved in the assignment. The project is being implemented under the close watch of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The induction course consists of Pharmaceutical Pooled Procurement, Localized Pharmaceutical Production, Regulatory Harmonization, and Partnership & Resource Mobilization and Communications.

The National consultants were welcomed by the Programme Management Office (PMO), Mr. Joseph Mthetwa. He introduced the purpose of the Induction meetings to ensure that all consultants had a full understanding of their role in the project. They were also told about what are being expected of them. The consultants were taken through each of the pillars by the respective pillar leads and held discussions to seek clarity in each of the sessions that were held.
