A 70-kilometer road linking Nampula and Nametil, the central cities of northern Mozambique, Africa, has been thrown open. Constructed by POSCO E&C, work for building the two-lane road began in December 2017 and was completed in July this year.  The company managed to complete the road in a record 30-month period despite poor local conditions and the impact of COVID-19.

Infrastructure projects always will have a lag effect. That is true in Africa more than anywhere else.  External factors that cause delays are inclement weather, political issues and endemic diseases which hold up the construction works.

The road connects the Mozambique capital, Maputo, to the northern region. The project was supported by the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF) and the South Korean government through the Korea Export-Import Bank of Korea.

The asphalt road (earlier it was unpaved road) will cut short the time required for passengers and logistics transportation from three hours to one hour.

As part of its corporate citizenship program, the multinational company, POSCO E&C has focused on traffic safety education and holding sports activities including donation of sports goods to local students.
