Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Arancha Gonzalez Laya met the newly elected Tunisian President Kais Saied and discussed the need for restoring bilateral relations. It is the first visit of the Spanish minister’s to Tunisia as head of Spanish diplomacy. She welcomed the establishment of a new government in Tunisia and wished it political stability.
The minister who is on a two -day visit exhorted the new government to create opportunities for the youth and open “legal ways” of immigration for those wanting opportunities abroad. Tunisia and Spain had agreed to come together in investing in Mediterranean countries like Libya that need more support to improve their situation to bring peace and stability in the region.
Both Spain and Tunisia have a long and growing economic relationship. North African countries in general and Tunisia in particular have strong economic relations with European Union countries and have been receiving regular economic packages for accelerating the region’s economic development.
