Northflix is making a fortune  as idle Nigerians turn to their mobile phones for  entertainment while they are cooling their heels at home because of the Covid-19.  The business of the company, which beams movies through smart phones, picked up considerably, when Nigeria’s over 80 million people flocked to smartphones to get their regular quota of entertainment as cinema halls and other places of entertainment were closed.

At a cost of US$ 4 a month, Northflix has been reaching homes  through its online platform. The subscribers number doubled while the revenue of the company trebled. The local entertainment outfit set up in 1992  with seven production companies,  now has 502 production outfits and 97 editing studios, employing more than 30,000 people, according to the Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, Kano Chapter. .

Northflix, earlier had a subscriber base of 40,000, which has now nearly doubled, while revenue has tripled, though the exact count of the revenue is not revealed. People attribute the success of the online entertainment company to its astute business sense and technology. Northflix formerly used the pay-per-view system. In the aftermath of the pandemic, it quickly switched to flat-rate subscriptions.   During the lockdown when cinemas, hotels, bars and other recreational outlets were shut down, it became a free for all for Northflix as idle Nigerians turned to their mobile phones to stream their favorite movies.
