Curfew introduced in Kenya to contain the spread of Covid—19 was extended for another thirty days to contain the pandemic, President Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta announced. Curfew was introduced on 25th March, which stipulated that between 9pm and 4am, activities should come to a halt. The ban imposed on bars and restaurants will continue for another month. The number of people permitted for attending weddings, funerals and other social events has been increased.
The incidence of Covid-19 cases has fallen country-wide from a high of 13% in June to 8% in August 2020. However, the counties and rural areas, where incidence of affliction was very low earlier are now reporting more cases.
The President stressed that the curfew was aimed at bringing down the Covid-19 cases to 5%, as recommended by the World Health Organization. The silver line is that infections are coming down in Nairobi and Mombasa. Kenya so far reported 33,016 cases of the novel coronavirus; of that 564 people have died. Kenyan economy also has been affected by the infection. But for the pandemic , the Kenyan economy was expected to perform better this year.
