The State of Lagos, Nigeria changed the land use charge to bring down the land use rates to the levels prevailed in the pre-2018 period. However, there is no change in the 2018 method of valuation. Importantly, penalties for land use charges for 2017, 2018 and 2019 have also been waived off to reduce the burden on the people.

The changes announced by the Lagos State government would result in a loss of revenue to the exchequer to the extent of N5 billion. The increase in the land use charge brought out in 2018 had created consternation among property owners. This had forced the current administration to review the land use charge to reduce the burden on the property owners.

In addition, the State government also decided to introduce efficient customer service management and prompt resolution of customer grievances. Towards this, a call center is being set up, wherein the property owners can seek clarifications on the rates, method of calculation, dead line etc.
